Experienced Gas Engineer Vacancy

Experienced gas engineer role supporting domestic boiler, heating and gas work across our South Birmingham to Worcestershire corridor.

Etchells Plumbing Services is recruiting an experienced gas engineer to join a Gas Safe registered plumbing and heating business based in South Birmingham.

The firm has been trading for over 30 years and covers a deliberate corridor from South and South West Birmingham through Bromsgrove and Hagley to Kidderminster and Bewdley — not the whole of the West Midlands. This vacancy is for someone who wants practical domestic gas and heating work within that geography.

The role

Day-to-day work for Etchells centres on domestic gas boilers and heating systems: diagnosing faults, repairing appliances where that is the right answer, replacing boilers when it is not, and carrying out related heating and gas appliance work. An experienced engineer in this role would be expected to take on that kind of work within their Gas Safe competence, deal professionally with customers on site, and keep standards high on every call.

Exact duties, hours and package details will be discussed with shortlisted applicants. We only publish employment terms here once they are confirmed.

Typical work

Depending on the day’s jobs, work may involve:

  • Boiler repairs where heating or hot water has failed
  • Boiler replacements and new installations planned around the property
  • Central heating work alongside boiler changes
  • Gas cooker installation within registration
  • Fault finding on heating systems, controls and related pipework
  • Explaining findings clearly to homeowners

Regulated gas work must only be carried out within the engineer’s Gas Safe registration and competence.

Working area

The business base is at 21 Kingsdown Road, Birmingham, B31 1AJ. Engineers travel the Etchells corridor rather than sitting in a shop all day. That typically includes South Birmingham (for example Harborne, Edgbaston, Bournville and Northfield), then Worcestershire towns and villages towards Bromsgrove, Hagley, Kidderminster and Bewdley.

You would not be expected to invent coverage of every place named on the website for SEO. The working area is the corridor the business already serves.

Package details such as salary, vehicle and hours are not listed here until they are confirmed. Shortlisted applicants will discuss the role properly rather than relying on unverified public claims.

Key responsibilities

  • Domestic boiler fault diagnosis and repair
  • Boiler installation and replacement work
  • Central heating and related domestic heating jobs
  • Gas cooker installation where within registration
  • Clear communication with homeowners and commercial customers
  • Working to Gas Safe and safe-working standards

What we're looking for

  • Experience as a gas engineer on domestic heating work
  • Ability to carry out regulated gas work lawfully (suitable Gas Safe registration for the tasks undertaken)
  • Reliable, practical approach to fault finding and installation work
  • Clear customer communication

Desirable

  • Familiarity with common domestic boiler makes such as Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Vaillant and Baxi
  • Experience across South Birmingham or Worcestershire housing stock

Location

Based in South Birmingham (B31), travelling the Etchells service corridor

Business base: 21 Kingsdown Road, Birmingham, B31 1AJ.
