Gas Cooker Installation

A gas cooker has to be installed and connected by a suitably registered engineer. Etchells Plumbing Services carries out gas cooker installation for residential and commercial customers across South Birmingham, Bromsgrove district and the Hagley to Kidderminster corridor.

That is the main gas appliance service we advertise here: fitting a new cooker, replacing an existing one, and connecting it safely to the gas supply. Other gas appliance work is assessed against our Gas Safe registration — if a particular appliance sits outside that registration, we will say so rather than imply every gas fitting is automatically covered.

What we need to know before a visit

  • Whether the cooker is already on site or still to be delivered
  • Whether a gas supply already exists in the kitchen
  • Whether this is a like-for-like replacement or a first-time installation
  • Any constraints around the cooker position, hose or bayonet fitting

A replacement onto an existing, suitable point is a different job from bringing a new gas supply into the room. Both need to be planned against the property, not assumed from a product brochure.

Safety

Do not connect, move or modify gas pipework yourself. If an existing cooker is not lighting correctly, smells of gas, or has signs of incomplete combustion, stop using it and arrange for a Gas Safe registered engineer to inspect it. For a suspected leak, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999.

Cooker work sometimes sits alongside boiler installation or a wider heating installation. See why Gas Safe registration matters if you want the background before booking.

Common questions

Can you install a gas cooker?

Yes. Gas cooker installation is a core service. We install and connect gas cookers that fall within our Gas Safe registration for residential and commercial properties in our working area.

Who should install a gas cooker?

Only a Gas Safe registered engineer should install or connect a gas cooker. Do not attempt to connect gas pipework or commission the appliance yourself.

Do you replace cookers onto an existing gas point?

Often yes. A replacement onto an existing, suitable point is a different job from bringing a new gas supply into a kitchen. Tell us what is already in place so we can plan the visit properly.

How can I verify a Gas Safe engineer?

Use the official Gas Safe Register and check the registration number. Ours is 227442. Engineers should also be able to show a Gas Safe ID card.
